Fiber in limbo
Right now, suppliers and users of inulin, soluble corn fiber/resistant maltodextrin, and acacia gum – and 23 other ingredients classified by FDA as ‘isolated or synthetic fibers’ - are in a state of regulatory limbo as they wait for the FDA to respond to a series of petitions arguing that they meet the criteria for dietary fiber classification, Beneo Inc technical director, Andy Estal, told FoodNavigator-USA.
