DNAFit: Genetic testing for athletes
UK-based nutrigenomics company DNAfit compiled 45-50 of the most researched gene variants that have a link to exercise or nutrition response into an algorithm. Users can order tests kits, which range from £99 (€116) to £249 (€351) depending on service.
Results from the kits can identify a user’s recovery nutrition needs, injury resilience, and power and endurance response, among other things. “Genetic testing doesn’t change the principles on sports nutrition...What we do know is that there is a large individual variation in the response of an individual in terms of improvements following supplementation,” said Andrew Steele, head of product development at DNAFit.
