Unilever launches mission-based Culture Republick probiotic ice cream

Unilever has introduced a premium, light, probiotic ice cream brand called Culture Republick containing three billion live cultures per pint from the patented strain GanedenBC30.

The brand is also aiming to “support culture” by donating 10% of profits to support local arts programs and will feature artwork by emerging artists on each of its pints.

The better-for-you ice cream category has been heating up as brands like Halo Top, Enlightened, and Unilever-owned Ben & Jerry’s have been responding to consumers for reduced guilt indulgence.

“Our research shows that ‘permissibly indulgent’ ice cream resonates with consumers across demographics, suggesting scope for additional category growth. Brands have an opportunity to excel by offering consumers ‘permissible indulgence’ that walks the line between health and indulgence,” Patty Johnson, Mintel associate director, purchase intelligence, said.

In addition to its probiotic content, the Culture Republick line contains 16 -18 grams of protein and 11-12 grams of fiber per pint with no artificial sweeteners, according to Unilever. Its calorie content ranges from 400 to 500 calories a pint depending on the flavor (milk & honey, turmeric chai & cinnamon, cold brew & chocolate chai, pistachio & caramel, lemom & graham, chocolate & cherry, and matcha & fudge).

Each pint is available for an SRP of $3.99 to $4.99 available in select market throughout the US.
