Canada approves USMCA trade deal
Rushed through Parliament with three bill readings in one day (13 March), the agreement has been approved by all three nations and now only requires implementation.
The USMCA deal is a replacement for the previous North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) that was in place between the parties until US President Donald Trump took office and moved to disband it.
US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue welcomed Canada’s approval of the agreement.
“USMCA is a great victory for America’s agriculture industry, and I am pleased to see Canada’s Parliament approved the deal today. USMCA locks in and expands access to our neighbors to the North and South. I thank President Trump for negotiating this deal and for always supporting America’s farmers and ranchers. We will continue to work with both Canada and Mexico in implementing this agreement.”
