Ancient Whole Grain Rich in Omega-3’s

Chía is an oleaginous seed that differs from similar family plants in its fat content: 63 % of total fatty acids in chia seed are Omega-3 essential fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid, (ALA), which makes it the best plant-source of these fatty acids. ALA is a short-chain fatty acid. Scientific assertions of its effect on human health are as numerous as those supporting sea animal origin EPA and DHA. In addition to its extremely high Omega-3 content, Chía has other components that make it attractive for human nutrition: antioxidants, fiber, protein and minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc.
