Chia Seed: Valuable Source of ALA Omega-3s

Chia is an oleaginous seed that differs from similar family plants in its fat content: 63 % of total fatty acids in chia seed are Omega-3 essential fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid, (ALA), which makes it the best plant-source of these fatty acids.
Chia also contains antioxidants, proteins and key minerals. Seeds can be eaten as is, ground and put into baked goods, made into a gel and added to any recipe or dissolved in water and used as a fiber drink.
Scientific assertions of its effect on human health are as numerous as those supporting sea animal origin EPA and DHA.
