A survey of more than 5,000 users of a leading online food ordering service shows that 88% buy lunch at least once a week and a quarter buy lunch every day.

As for dinner, more than 65% of users of delivery.com, who are typically aged 18-34 and live in urban areas, order takeout once or twice a week, while a quarter of those surveyed order takeout for dinner 3-4 times a week.

In addition, almost three quarters (73%) said they ate out at a restaurant once or twice a week, while 17% said they ate out 3-4 times a week.

Nevertheless, almost two thirds consider themselves to be good or very good at cooking, while 28% rated their cooking skills as 'OK'.

As for trying new things, many of the young urbanites surveyed admitted they are pretty unadventurous when ordering food, with 35% flirting with new places fairly regularly, but 62% only ordering from a new place “once in a while”.

Asked what they regularly buy online, half said prepared food (eg. takeout), but a much lower number (23%) said groceries.

While almost 60% said they regularly bought books or electronics online, and 47% regularly buy health and beauty products online, only 11% said they regularly bought wine or liquor online.

Delivery.com has a network of nearly 10,000 restaurants, caterers, grocers, florists and other merchants in over 50 major cities nationwide.
