Kansas Wheat Commission administrator David Frey has accepted a position with the Grain Industry Alliance (GIA) in Afghanistan. The GIA is a non-profit organization closely associated with the American Institute of Baking and Kansas State University Department of Grain Science and Industry. The GIA is working in Afghanistan to help farmers increase profits from food and coarse grain crops as an alternative to production of poppies, the base for illegal opium that reportedly is nine times more lucrative than rice or wheat. German fragrance and flavor firm Symrise has appointed Gerold Linzbach as CEO, replacing James D. Forman. In addition, William Antonace has joined the company as executive vice president of operations and services North America. Nearly a quarter of the company's sales revenue comes from North America. Rachael Puntasecca has been appointed president of Malt Products International, a division of Malt Products Corporation. The New Jersey-based company is the largest producer of pure malts and molasses and serves the brewing and baking industries. Chicago-based ingredients supplier SourceOne has appointed James Roza as vice president of business development, technology & science. Roza will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and providing expertise on scientific, technical and global regulatory affairs. "With almost 30 years as a nutritional supplement retailer, brand manufacturer and marketer, Jim understands the needs of our global partners, customers and ultimately, the health conscious consumer," said SourceOne president Jesse Lopez. "The industry must move rapidly to adopt GMP standards and improve testing methods for validation of raw material quality, consistency, potency and safety standards, which is Jim's forte." Flavors giant Fona International has appointed Michelle Frame as senior scientist within its research and development team, product solutions. The company says that Frame has more than 13 years of experience in the food and beverage sector. The Wheat Foods Council has appointed Marcia Scheideman as president. Scheideman is currently a regional coordinator in the extension and outreach programs for Cornell Cooperative Extension. Flavors and fine ingredients firm Frutarom USA has appointed Karla Markwardt as West Coast sales executive. Before joining Frutarom, Markwardt was a consultant at TFF/Sovereign Flavors/Sterling Flavor. Ariel Calmanovici has been named chief financial officer. The Virginia Dare Extract Company has appointed Anton Angelich as group vice president, marketing. The company is leader in the manufacture of vanilla products, tea, coffee, and cocoa concentrates. Angelich was previously with Symrise and served as vice president of the firm's sweet business unit, North America. And finally, Karen E. Todd has been named senior marketing manager for Kyowa Hakko USA. She will be based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kyowa Hakko, maker of Cognizin brand citicoline, is an international health ingredients manufacturer and has become a world leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of nutraceuticals and food products.
