Tate & Lyle completes sale of Canadian sugar business

British ingredient giant Tate & Lyle yesterday completed the
sale of its Canadian sugar refining business, as the firm makes
another step away from the commodity end of the market.
Tate & Lyle has been forced to close its UK citric acid
operations in the face of intense competition from Chinese imports
and oversupply in the world market.
Tate & Lyle has predicted sales and profits of its Splenda
sucralose product to 'only modestly' increase due to a slower than
anticipated acceleration of uptake from major customers.
