The fruit company Tree Top has completed an agreement to acquire the fruit puree processor Sabroso in order to expand its product portfolio and increase research and development.

Tree Top, which makes the Tree Top brand of premium juices, apple sauce and other fruit products, also owns and operates Northwest Naturals, which specializes in juice formulation and juice concentrate sales to the beverage industry.

Meanwhile Sabroso boasts of being the largest processor and seller of single-strength and concentrated fruit purees in the US, as well as providing dried fruit flakes and fruit preparations for the ingredient and foodservice channels.

The deal aims to leverage all three product portfolios and “provide the most extensive product support possible to all customers”, according to Tree Top which is a grower-owner cooperative.

Tom Hurson, senior vice president, Tree Top Ingredient and Foodservice Sales, said combining the three businesses would boost their ability to provideprocessed fruit solutions for food manufacturers in the food, beverage and foodservice industries.

He added: “ It provides an expanded product portfolio, increased research and development capacity, industry leading fruit processing knowledge and technology and decades of successful grower relationships.”

Sabroso has manufacturing facilities in Medford and Woodburn, Oregon, and Oxnard, California, while Tree Top and Northwest Naturals operate four production facilities in Washington, and one in Rialto, California.

Each company will continue to operate their day-to-day businesses as usual.Financial details of the sale were not disclosed.
