Probiotic mechanisms of action, new delivery systems for the healthy bacteria and an overview of the latest clinical trials in humans will be core topics of discussion at the IPA World Congress early next year.

Registration for the event kicked off last week and has already attracted 25 representatives from the probiotics industry in the United States, Canada and New Zealand, said Ioannis Misopoulos, director general of the International Probiotics Association (IPA).

The event, which takes place every two years, is designed to bring together industry, scientists and the medical community to discuss the latest developments in probiotics. The 2009 congress will take place in Miami on April 16-17, 2010, where experts from across these sectors will give presentations on biotechnology and the international regulatory environment, as well as the most recent clinical data.

Sponsors include - amongst others – Nestle, Danisco, Fonterra and Institut Rosell-Lallemand.

Registration for the event, which is limited to 300 attendees, is possible via its website www.ipaworldcongress.com.
