Japan calls for trans fat labeling
Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency has said it intends to ask food makers to voluntarily label the trans fat content of their products, according to Kyodo News International.
The agency released draft guidelines on Friday and aims to finalize them by next month – and the move could lead mandatory trans fat labeling in the future, the news organization said.
The guidelines call for labeling of trans fat amounts per 100g or per serving in order “to reduce the risk of cardiac disease.”
