China mulls bisphenol A ban in baby bottles

Authorities have launched research to assess the possible health impacts of the chemical in the infant food containers, Xinhua reported Li Ning, deputy director of the nutrition and food safety institute under the Chinese Center of Disease Control and Prevention Center, as saying. Last month, the Ministry of Health called for public comment on a draft list of legal substance in food packages. Chinese media said the draft, BPA listed as being banned from use in vessels having direct contact with baby food. The European Union’s ban on the manufacturing of BPA-containing bottles in the region came into force on 1 March. Their sale and marketing will be outlawed from 1 June, 2011.
