Corn Products International is probably best known for its corn sweeteners, but its approach to stevia has altered significantly over the past few years.

The company has its own stevia production, extraction and refining facilities in Brazil and Japan. Adriana Rached, Corn Products' director of marketing and customer solutions for North America, told FoodNavigator-USA that the company has shifted its approach from 100 replacement of caloric sweeteners to a 50 to 80 percent sugar reduction strategy.

Speaking at Supply Expo in Anaheim, California, Rached explained why the company has chosen to focus on mid-calorie formulations - and that when it comes to sweeteners, Corn Products is about more than just corn products.
