Stevia supplier GLG Life Tech said it has received a letter of no objection from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that its Rebpure RA95 stevia extract is generally recognized as safe (GRAS).

The recognition is the fourth GRAS letter that the company has received from the FDA for its stevia-derived sweeteners.

The latest covers Rebpure RA95, a sweetener containing at least 95% rebaudioside A – one of the steviol glycosides, or sweet components, from the stevia leaf. The sweetener must contain at least 97% steviol glycosides, according to the FDA GRAS review.

Chairman and CEO of GLG Dr. Luke Zhang said in a statement: “We have found that the FDA GRAS standard is respected in many of our key international markets including South America and Asia and we will therefore be able to further leverage this key achievement in our international markets."
