Distributor Batory Foods acquires Mac & Massey
Food and ingredients distributor Batory Foods has acquired Atlanta, Georgia based ingredient broker and distributor Mac & Massey for an undisclosed sum, although the company is calling it the largest acquisition in its 33-year history.

Batory Foods distributes food ingredients to about 6,000 customers across every state in the country, while Mac & Massey is a $90m holding company for Massey Fair, Mac Source and Mulligan Sales.

Massey Fair is a nationwide broker for food ingredients including sweeteners, starch, oils, cocoa, fruit concentrates and nut meats; Mac Source distributes ingredients in the Southeast, and represents many of the same suppliers as Batory Foods, the company said.

Vice president of Batory Foods Ron Friedman said in a statement: "By merging Mac & Massey with Batory Foods, we have significantly expanded the sales and distribution coverage we can provide our suppliers. With added distribution centers around the United States, Batory becomes the only national ingredient distribution company that focuses entirely on food and fine ingredients.”

A strategic path towards expansion

Batory Foods had just begun to distribute ingredients in the Southeast, while Mac & Massey has long been a major supplier in the region, Batory Foods said. This will better market access in the Southeast, and could make it more attractive for food firms with multiple locations across the country.

President and CEO of Mac & Massey Randy Cimorelli said: "Both companies have been on a strategic path toward expansion and vertical integration. Joining forces allows us to leverage our individual strengths."

The two companies are due to be integrated over the next 12 months.
