Barry Callebaut has announced that it is switching to Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified palm oil for compounds and filling at most plants.

It will complete its shift to 100% RSPO-certified palm oil at European factories this month while selected plants in North America and Asia Pacific are preparing to offer products with sustainable palm oil for those regions.

"The demand for food products produced in a responsible way continues to grow, and we're seeing this as well in our compound and fillings business with an increasing number of customers requiring sustainable palm oil," said Steven Retzlaff, president Global Sourcing & Cocoa at Callebaut.

Callebaut has been an RSPO member since June 2011. RSPO certification ensures palm oil production does not take place in primary forests or high conservation value areas.
