Brazilian chicken gains green light to Mexico
Mexico has opened its market to chicken and eggs from Brazil, according to the Brazilian authorities.
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) stated that it had received documentation from the Mexican authorities on 24 July stating that they had accepted MAPA’s health guarantees for chicken and egg products.
“With this documentation acknowledging the Brazilian health guarantees, we can start exporting,” said agriculture minister Antonio Andrade. He added that MAPA would issue export certificates to be completed by exporting companies within days.
Chicken is a major export for Brazil, which sold 1.8 million tonnes of the meat, worth US$3.8bn, to foreign markets in the first six months of 2013. This represents a 7.9% year-on-year increase, reflecting Brazil’s efforts to open new export markets.
