Nestlé expands Egyptian ice cream factory on growing demand

The factory, located 30km from Cairo in 6 th of October City, produces ice creams for local distribution as well as for export to northeast Africa , including Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, and Tunisia. The investment is expected to create 200 new jobs, and the company says it will add new manufacturing lines to meet growing demand for its Nestlé and Dolce ice cream brands. The factory also produces Mövenpick -brand ice cream products for export to Malaysia. Nestlé said it also planned “significant investments in the coming years” to develop the factory’s mixing, processing, chocolate coating and cone filling equipment. The company started making ice cream in Egypt in 1988, when it acquired the Cairo-based Industrie Du Froid and its Kimo ice cream brand, and acquired Dolce Co for Food Industries seven years later. In 2001, the ice cream manufacturing operations were merged at the Dolce Co facility in 6 th of October City.

Nestlé has invested 26m Swiss francs (€21m)to extend its ice cream factory in Egypt, which the company says is one of its biggest ice cream markets.
