Cargill to label Finely Textured Beef
Cargill Beef is to label its branded ground beef products containing finely textured beef (FTB).

Consumer surveys and focus groups reveal that consumers want transparency and believe ground beef products containing Finely Textured Beef should be clearly labeled, providing them with choices when they make a purchase.

The firm said the decision was based on extensive consumer research over the past 18 months.

“Our research shows that consumers believe ground beef products containing finely textured beef should be clearly labeled,” said John Keating, Cargill beef president.

Speaking to our sister publication Food Navigator-USA last year, the firm said some customers had expressed an interest in re-introducing FTB to their ground beef products after the ‘pink slime’ media storm prompted many to drop it.

Alternate name for Finley Textured Beef

Posted by L Whetstone,

Could the name change be prompted because the "meat" was iniatially identified as , "Mechanically Separated Meat"?
