Ingredion ties up with Desert King International to take natural foaming agents to a global audience

Ingredion has struck a deal with Desert King International (DKI) to become the exclusive global distributor of DKI's natural foaming agents from Quillaja saponaria (the soapbark tree) and Yucca schidigera (the Mohave yucca plant) for use in food and beverage applications.  

San Diego-based Desert King​, which is a leading supplier of jojoba oil, is the world's largest producer of products from Quillaja saponaria ​and Yucca schidigera - ​which are widely used in carbonated soft drinks, syrups, frozen carbonated beverages, beer, juices, and other products.

The firm, which has manufacturing facilities in Baja California, Mexico (Yucca schidigera​) and Chile (Quillaja saponaria),​ has been working with Ingredion on Q-Naturale, a natural emulsifier for beverages derived from Quillaja saponaria​, since 2007.

Ingredion will introduce the foaming agents to the North American market, under the FOAMATION brand, on November 1, with a global roll-out to follow in 2015. 

Quillaja saponaria​ extracts are approved for use in food and beverages by the US Food & Drug Administration under 21 CFR 172.510​, FEMA GRAS number 2973. They are also approved by the EU for use in water-based non-alcoholic drinks under code E 999.
