No preservatives, no added sugar, and no atmosphere? That’s It fruit bars boldly go into space

With sales already heading into the stratosphere after a successful roll-out in chains from Starbucks to Kroger, That’s It fruit bars upped the ante this week after being cleared by NASA as a snack for astronauts to munch on as they work at the International Space Station (ISS).

The bars – which were tested at NASA’s food lab - were cleared for launch on a cargo mission to the ISS as they provide a convenient way for astronauts to get daily servings of real fruit, but have an 18 month shelf life and do not deteriorate when exposed to rapid changes in temperature.

After being cleared, That’s it Apple + Apricot, and Apple + Banana bars were launched into space earlier this week accompanied by more than 7,000 pounds of cargo, research equipment and other crew supplies, said That’s it founder Dr. Lior Lewensztain.

“It’s exhilarating to think our product will actually be in orbit, providing a daily serving of fruit to an astronaut. This is a tremendous application of our vision to improve the quality of life worldwide by making fruit and its benefits accessible everywhere – now even in space.”
