Boulder Brands co-founder Steve Hughes - who resigned from the firm last summer - has teamed up with private equity firm Trilantic North America to form Sunrise Strategic Partners, which will provide growth capital and expertise to emerging brands in the healthy living market.

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Sunrise will focus on partnering with "passionate founders that have a strong, unique vision and are ready to take their business to the next level", said Hughes.

"Trilantic and I share the vision that there is tremendous value to be created by helping founders of brands that resonate with the millennial consumer scale their business. I am excited to partner with Trilantic to create a platform with the growth expertise and capital founders need to scale a great proof of concept into a disruptive force in their category."

Sunrise is looking to work with emerging brands that resonate with millennials, have a strong proof of concept and have reached approximately $10-$20 million in revenue.
