Perfect Fit Meals issues chicken breast recall
It is believed the chicken breast products produced by the US company may contain milk and wheat – both of which are known allergens – that are not declared on the product label.
In light of this, the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed Perfect Fit Meals has recalled 3,546lb, or 1.6 tonnes (t), of ready-to-eat chicken breast products.
The chicken breast products were made on 20-21 December 2016 and have been distributed to military commissaries and retail points across the US.
No reports of illness
Perfect Fit Meals was alerted to the issue by a distributor, which called to notify the business that the products were incorrectly labelled. FSIS claimed the product was labelled as ‘Lemon Pepper Chicken’, although it also contained ‘Blackened Chicken Breast’ which contains both milk and wheat.
No reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products have been made. Consumers who have purchased the products are advised not to consume them – they should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
A comment from Perfect Fit Meals could not be obtained at the time of writing.
