Virginia-based Smithfield has added six products to its frozen meat products portfolio with the launch of fully cooked sausages and microwaveable sandwiches.

The new range includes pork and chicken products and targets consumer demand for on-the-go food, a market category expected to be worth $1.9bn by 2026, according to Future Market Insights.

As a nationwide leader in the breakfast category, we at Smithfield are excited to build upon the equity of our bacon and ham products and bring the traditional taste of Smithfield right to the freezer aisle,” said Mike Merritt, senior director of brand marketing at Smithfield.

Now, with the launch of our new fully cooked sandwiches and sausages, we’re excited to offer convenient, on-the-go options for consumers looking to enjoy an easy breakfast any time of day.”

The meat processor’s new product offering includes Smithfield Fully Cooked Breakfast Sandwiches. These fully cooked and microwaveable sandwiches are based on a Southern-style biscuit made from buttermilk. Each package contains four individually wrapped sandwiches. One pack will cost consumers $4.99.

Smithfield’s Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausages are also priced at $4.99. This new range comes in two varieties: Maple Patties and Hometown Original Links and Patties, comprising sausages and burger-shaped sausages.

Smithfield is one of more than a dozen packaged meat brands operated by US-based Smithfield Foods, which claims to be the largest pork processor in the world.

Earlier this month, Smithfield Food launched an antibiotic-free range of bacon, sausages and fresh pork under its clean meat brand Pure Farm. It also strengthened its supply chain through the $145m takeover of Clougherty Packing LLC, announced in January 2017.
