Fine Food Stop sells luxury meat to high-end restaurants in Calgary, Canada, and the small team of six have been in the business since 2013.
Co-owner Andrew Denhamer said a “huge amount” of frozen meat was stolen between the evening of Sunday 5 March and early morning on Monday 6 March.
On a post to Reddit, he said the perpetrator cut through a padlock on a truck the business was temporarily using to store frozen meat.
Black market fears
The company recently expanded into a new warehouse and said it had been using a rental freezer truck temporarily to store its frozen meat as it saved up to pay for a walk-in freezer. The business said it had also recently paid for a walk-in fridge at the site.
Among the items stolen from Fine Foods Stop were 200kg of duck breasts; 200kg of duck legs; 300kg of grass-fed mince beef; 100kg of smoked salmon; 300kg of grass-fed, prime rib, tenderloin and striploin steaks; 50kg of foie gras; 60kg of lamb legs; 30kg of lamb ribs and other, unspecified smaller items.
The business is concerned the meat will be sold on the black market and has asked customers to be on the lookout for any of the above products.
Fine Food Stop said it believed whoever stole the meat used a truck, as the meat occupied five large storage pallets.
The business is based in Franklin Park, an industrial centre that is home to a number of companies in Canada.
Calgary Police Service could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
