Magnet found in sausage mix sparks recall

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has confirmed over 139,000 pounds of ready smoked sausages have been recalled due to possible foreign matter contamination.

The problem was discovered after a metal magnet was found in the beef trim source used for the processed sausages.

All items are believed to have been sent to foodservice providers and retail stores in the US states of Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

No health upsets reported​

Produced on various dates between 8 March 2017 and 8 April 2017, the Uncle John’s Pride recall extends to 11 different products.

FSIS said there had been no confirmed reports of adverse reaction due to consumption of Uncle John’s Pride products.

Consumers who believe they have purchased the affected products have been urged not to eat them. Instead, the sausages should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. The products subject to the recall can be identified by checking the establishment number which is inside the USDA mark of inspection.
