NZ butcher awaits sausage-making world record result
Corey Winder of Elite Meats Bush Inn, Christchurch, tried to beat the official record by creating 78 sausages in 60 seconds. However Winder had completed just 69 sausages before his time ran out, according to Retail Meat New Zealand’s Facebook page.
There is still hope for the butcher though, as the current official record is just 28. Before he finds out if he made it into the prestigious Guinness World Record hall of fame, he must wait a few months whilst the evidence is reviewed.
Winder a seven-year butchery captain
“Corey has a huge passion for butchery and has excelled within the industry,” commented Antoinette Bisset, general manager of Retail Meat New Zealand.
“Having seen his skills in action over past years, it is safe to say he will be setting a benchmark for future contestants.”
No stranger to competitions, Winder has captained New Zealand’s national butchery team, the Pure South Sharp Blacks for the past seven years and has lead the team to World Butchers’ Challenge (formally the Tri Nations Competition) victory an impressive three times. He was asked to go for the sausage-making world record after competing in the 2017 Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition awards dinner, which saw him compete against four other butchers in the Linking Championship.
Winder will be hoping to lead his team and country to a fourth victory next year, when the World Butchers’ Challenge heads to Northern Ireland for the first time. Taking place at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on 21 March 2018, next year’s competition is set to the biggest yet.
New Zealand will be hoping to dethrone France as the current champions, but will have to overcome competition from countries including Australia, Great Britain, the US, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, South Africa, Greece and Brazil.
