Brazil set to export live cattle to Malaysia
The agreement was reached between the two markets after health checks were carried out on Brazilian cattle, which were coordinated by MAPA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Brazilian side and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agroindustry of Malaysia.
Brazil’s Government said the move represented a step towards “deepening” trade relations with Malaysia and reinforced its position as one of the world’s leading animal protein exporters.
Malaysia, which has a population of 31.6m people, imports around 80% of the beef it consumes into the country.
Brazil has been working with several other international markets to enhance its beef trade recently. Earlier last year, the South American country finalised an export deal with Saudi Arabia for live cattle. Meanwhile, this month, it also strengthened ties with Chile after agreeing to export its frozen and fresh beef into the country.
Following the export deal to Malaysia, the Brazilian Government added that it would continue to negotiate with the Asian country on the export of live cattle for breeding, as well as other opportunities to export its poultry meat.
