Nothing’s as healthy as fresh fruit, but novel ‘grape-like’ refrigerated fruit bites made from fruit and veggie purees held together with fibers make for a healthier alternative to fruit leathers and gummies for kids’ lunchboxes, claims Incredible Foods, the firm behind the allergy-friendly Perfectly Free brand.

Speaking to FoodNavigator-USA at the Specialty Food Association’s Winter Fancy Food Show, Darla Crookham Snyder, business development manager at Incredible Foods, said the colorful fruit bites are shiny in appearance with a smooth alginate ‘skin,’ and perfect for children.

Each serving (seven bites) contains 5g sugar and 2g fiber, said Crookham Snyder.

“This is a space that hasn’t had a lot of innovation. They’re playful and fun and look like gumballs or junk food treat for kids but they are actually quite healthy. The shelf life is 60 days at production and they sit well [in the store perimeter] next to cut fruit, sliced apples and things that parents are used to grabbing to put into lunchboxes.

“These have been out on the market since June 2018 and the response has been tremendous.”

The fruit bites come in four flavors: Mixed berry, Strawberry banana, Pineapple mango, and Raspberry pomegranate.

INGREDIENTS (raspberry pomegranate bites): Raspberry puree, strawberry puree concentrate, organic cane sugar, water, pomegranate juice, chicory root fiber, orange pulp, oat fiber, citric acid, carob bean gum, agar, natural flavors, algin, pectin, concentrate (chokeberry elderberry, apple, blackcurrant, blueberry), carnauba wax, chitosan, citric acid, tomato lycopene color, ascorbic acid.
