NEW PRODUCTS GALLERY: From plant-based burgers, yogurt, and creamers to sophisticated soda

The new Lightlife plant-based burger - which packs in 20g of pea protein - contains 0g of cholesterol, and 2.5g of saturated fat in a quarter-pound patty (vs 80g cholesterol and 9.3g saturated fat in a beef patty). Tofurky, meanwhile, has relaunched its plant-based frozen Pockets line, and moved into new territory with the launch of Moocho, a plant-based line of frozen cheesecakes. Hakuna Banana - a start-up combining mashed bananas, dates and coconut milk to make 'non-dairy nicecream' - has launched a line of chocolate coated frozen treats in selected Whole Foods and Sprouts stores. Danone North America - which has recently unveiled an almondmilk-based yogurt alternative under a new brand called Good Plants - has also developed a coconutmilk-based line under its Oikos brand. Almond Breeze has launched a non-dairy creamer in unsweetened and vanilla flavors, and a new almondmilk blend with real bananas with 80 calories per cup and no added sugar. The latest innovations from Elmhurst include an oatmilk barista blend designed for hot beverages, a peanut-based protein shake with 20g protein, and a hemp based creamer. Nestlé USA has expanded its Natural Bliss line with an oatmilk creamer, and plant-based half & half, which combines almond and coconut milk. Vegan Mac from Modern Table features pasta made from lentils, rice and peas with up to 16g protein per 3.5oz serving, and is available nationwide at Whole Foods ($3.49-$3.99). Cali’flour Foods' new high protein, low glycemic pastas are made from cauliflower and yellow lentils. Hint has moved into the kids' beverage space with drinks featuring purified water and natural flavors, with no juice, sugar, or sweeteners. Lightly sparkling organic Tea Sodas from Teatulia feature brewed tea, fruit, and herbs in 12 oz slim cans. New collagen shots from Vital Proteins are infused with 7g of collagen peptides and a variety of functional ingredients such as apple cider vinegar, hyaluronic acid, ginger, and turmeric. Orange Vanilla Coke and Orange Vanilla Coke Zero Sugar are launching nationwide on February 25 - the first new flavors in more than a decade under the Coca-Cola brand. BAR NONE is a new line of non-alcoholic soft drinks in four flavors - Ginger Mule, Bellini Spritz, Dry Aged Cider and Sangria – " hatched during an at-work conversation [at Coca-Cola Venturing & Emerging Brands]... about craving something more exciting than club soda for occasions when they didn’t want to partake." Nitro Pepsi – a nitrogen-infused cola from PepsiCo promising to deliver an ‘entirely reimagined cola experience’ – reflects an industry-wide push to create soda that’s “ more interesting, more premium and consumed a little slower by the consumer, ” says Euromonitor. New from Halo Top are Pops, with 3-5 grams of sugar and up to 60 calories per pop. Organic Aussie-style yogurt brand Wallaby (Danone North America), has launched an indulgent line of Aussie Crème Yogurts (with 8.5% milkfat) in three flavors: Spiced Peach, Strawberry Red Wine, and Caramelized Pineapple ($1.79). Kettle & Fire is tapping into the keto trend with a new line of soups made with bone broth and organic grass-fed heavy cream and butter in its mushroom bisque, broccoli cheddar, and butter curry soups; and organic coconut cream in its spicy cauliflower variety. Birch Benders is also tapping into the keto craze with a pancake & waffle mix made with almond flour, tigernut flour, coconut flour, cassava starch and buttermilk with 5g net carbs and 9g protein per serving. A little over six months after buying meal kit company Chef’d, high pressure processing (HPP) specialist True Food Innovations has relaunched the kits with “fresh, clean label, preservative free recipes with 55 days of shelf life." Options include Chicken Piccata; Peppercorn Steak; Saffron Tomato Chicken; Roasted Garlic Herb Chicken;Truffle Butter Sirloin Steak;Mediterranean Style Chicken; and Classic Chicken Marsala. Each recipe includes a produce component such as brussels sprouts and purple potatoes, and cooks in 15 to 20 minutes.
