At the recent International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, GlobalMeatNews caught up with North American Meat Institute vice president of sustainability Eric Mittenthal to discuss the challenges facing producers in this area.

In our latest podcast, Mittenthal explained how the industry has a great story to tell but has to put in the work to tell it.

He said processors need to take “an honest look at themselves” and see where they can improve in terms of sustainability but also be mindful that change won’t happen overnight and that targets might not be met.

Mittenthal urged processors to work together and share best practices in terms of improving sustainability. In July 2019, the issue of environment and sustainability was deemed non-competitive by the North American Meat Institute.

GlobalMeatNews is holding a webinar on sustainability on 3 March. For more information and how to register, click here.
