World Meat Congress postponed due to coronavirus
Organised by the International Meat Secretariat (IMS), the event has been given a new provisional date of 23-25 June 2021.
The World Meat Congress was due to feature speakers from networking group Meat Business Women, the North American Meat Institute and GIRA.
In a statement announcing the postponement, the IMS explained: “On behalf of IMS President Guillaume Roué, and Granjas Carroll de Mexico President Pedro Tabares, we regret to inform you that our World Meat Congress has been postponed.
“As you know the COVID-19 situation, while improving in China, is worsening in many regions of the world. We have the duty to place public safety first. We fear that in the coming months more stringent travel restrictions could be mandated by country authorities, with strong possibility of quarantine requirements for conference participants either as they enter Mexico, or as they return to their home countries.
“We have decided to reschedule sufficiently far in the future (June 2021) to allow time for the COVID-19 situation to be resolved. Of course, we cannot at this time predict when the COVID-19 crisis will be over. We regret any inconvenience this postponement has caused.”
It added that details on how to obtain reimbursement for registration fees will be provided soon.
Earlier this month, the World Butchers’ Challenge, set to take place in September in California, US was also postponed to 2021, also due to the coronavirus.
