Gathered Foods, maker of Good Catch plant-based seafood, has partnered with fast casual restaurant chain Veggie Grill to launch a tuna melt menu item featuring Good Catch Plant Based Tuna.

Veggie Grill has become an early adopter of several novel plant-based food brands in the past including Eat Just and Beyond Meat. In its most recent partnership with Good Catch, the foodservice outlet will offer the 100% plant-based tuna melt through the rest of the calendar year at all 37 of its locations across California, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

"Tuna melts are a comfort food favorite for many people and this fish-free offering is a way for us to satisfy that craving,” said Kajsa Alger, VP of food and beverage at Veggie Grill. The menu item will be priced at $9.95 at most restaurant locations, according to Veggie Grill.

The news follows several growth milestones for the Good Catch brand including a $36.8m Series B financing round completed in January and joint distribution venture with Bumble Bee Foods. Most recently, Gathered Foods appointed Christine Mei as CEO and announced the opening of its dedicated production facility in Heath, Ohio.

Founded by chefs Derek and Chad Sarno who created the company's proprietary six-legume blend (peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans and navy beans), Good Catch plant-based tuna has a texture that mimics the flakiness of seafood and is high in protein (14g per serving) and free-from dairy, GMO ingredients, and mercury.
