Verdure launches functional Benefruits ingredients

Verdure Sciences has launched a new line of proprietary nutraceutical fruit and vegetable based ingredients, Benefruits, for use in dietary supplements, functional food and beverage as well as personal care products.

Benefruits includes branded antioxidant-rich Pomella, a blend of pomegranate polyphenols standardized for punicalagins. Punicalagins are believed to be the main active components responsible for the fruit's health-promoting properties. Verdure will specifically target products marketed as functional or value-added and the company is investing in this platform - saying it will conduct research on BeneFruits through to the year 2010. The Indiana-based company claims its research will be based on the internal, oral, and skin care parameters and applications of the ingredient line. Research into the functional properties of pomegranates have revealed special promise in the area of cardiovascular health. Verdure acquired branded botanical ingredients - including Pomella - from GeniHerbs last year. The brands were said to be set for distribution in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States. Verdure also has offices in Heilbronn, Germany, and claims to have a network with over 40 universities, medical centers, and laboratories that support its research capabilities and patent initiatives.
