Hurricane Sandy latest: AAK; DSM, Mondelez, PepsiCo, Dannon, Unilever

AAK’s plant in Port Newark has been temporarily shut down since Monday as the plant has no supply of electricity and parts of it are flooded. A spokesperson said on Wednesday: “ AAK’s initial assessment is that there is no major damage to the plant however production needs to be closed for a short period in order to restore the site.” AAK: Minor parts of Oasis Foods plant are water damaged Production at the Oasis Foods plant has also been temporarily interrupted since Monday as the plant has no supply of electricity, added the firm: “Minor parts of the site are water damaged. As soon as electricity has returned to the plant AAK expects production to be resumed within days. AAK will conduct a thorough evaluation as soon as the authorities allows further access to the currently restricted area in Port Newark. “AAK has insurance cover for the business interruption.” Unilever USA: All facilities are operational except for our US HQ in Englewood Cliffs, NJ Unilever USA media relations manager Jeff Graubard said: "Except for our U.S. HQ in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., all of our facilities are currently operational. A determination will be made later today about the EC campus' availability. In the meantime, work continues through our Agile Working platform." Mondelēz International: Our sales, distribution and manufacturing networks are returning to operation today Mondelēz International regional director, corporate & government affairs Laurie M. Guzzinati, said: " Our East Hanover regional headquarters office has reopened today, but our confectionery Research & Development facility in Whippany, NJ is still without power and remains closed. "Our sales, distribution and manufacturing networks are returning to operation today, including our three manufacturing plants that were in the path of the storm (Richmond, VA, Philadelphia, PA and Fairlawn, NJ)." DSM: Business as usual DSM, which has offices in Parsippany and Columbia, told us: “ While well inland, our offices have been affected due to the impact of the storm on the State’s infrastructure. Our offices closed at noon on Monday and reopened this morning. “At this time, all DSM offices, including the Parsippany and Columbia offices as well as all of our production and warehouse sites are open and functioning. “In Parsippany our phone service is currently down but we have electricity and internet service. Our Human Nutrition Account Service Center (which is located in Parsippany) is manned but currently unable to take phone or fax orders from customers due to the telephone lines being out, but they are taking orders sent to: webshop.dnpna@dsm.com “Our plants and warehouses are operating under their normal conditions and existing customer orders are being processed and shipped without interruption.” Chobani: Business as usual A spokeswoman for Greek yogurt giant Chobani said: "Thankfully most of Chenango County in Central NY, where our plant and production facilities are located, remained intact from Sandy and all Chobani employees are safe." PepsiCo: We have a handful of sites without power A PepsiCo spokeswoman said: " We have a handful of sites without power but for the part most operations are either up and running or in the process of getting there. Trucks are getting back on routes today." Bunge: Kearny plant still doesn't have any power Bunge Oils marketing specialist Ben Carpenter said the firm's plant in Kearny, New Jersey,still doesn't have any power, but that the water has receded. Dannon: Some people continue to work remotely Michael J. Neuwirth, senior director of public relations at Dannon Company, which has offices in White Plains, New York, added: " Some people continue to work remotely / from home. We continue to encourage our team to maintain safety as their top priority."
