AlgaVia flour and protein powder are both GRAS
As for regulatory issues, the AlgaVia ingredients are not considered novel foods in Europe, while in the US, Solazyme has notified the FDA that both the flour and the protein have been determined generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by a panel of experts on the basis of multiple studies.
It has already received a ‘no questions’ letter from the agency on the flour and is expecting to receive one for the protein shortly.
