Sugar helps the insects go down
If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, then it might also help the insects go down. Students at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst created Meal-malade, a dry powder mix that can be combined with milk or water to create a thick porridge or topping for bread and crackers. The product combines mealworms, which offer 7 grams of protein per serving, with tapioca for energy, pineapple for flavor and vitamins and vitamin A fortified sugar for taste. The students noted the ingredients all can be sourced easily from Zambia, where their product is targeted. They took third place in the US and Canada division of the competition.
