DIY aspect of Hummustir misses mark for some
The goal of having consumers combine the different ingredients of Hummustir is to give them a sense of pride in making their own food, according to the creator. But Matt Bailey, a tech policy analyst, says the kit does the opposite, going as far as to say that as someone who regularly cooks from scratch the kit was “a little bit offensive.” He explained: “There has been a whole modern food movement around people actually learning how to cook and make food for themselves and how to do it from scratch, and learning how food works. This feels like it is trying to capitalize on that, but it is actually on the far end of the spectrum. It seems like hyper-processed food. … You get none of the benefits from cooking your own food, whether that is creative or health.”
