Howard Schultz to step down as CEO, move to executive chairman position
In April 2017, Starbucks is also replacing its visionary CEO, Howard Schultz, with current president and COO Kevin Johnson, whose “technology background positions him well to ensure that Starbucks’ mobile and digital initiatives will remain a primary focus of the company,” says Wells Fargo.
Schultz – who will shift his focus to innovation, design and development of Starbucks Reserve Roasteries, the Starbucks Reserve retail store format and the company’s social impact initiatives - will serve as executive chairman when Johnson takes the helm.
