Jackfruit ... the next big thing in plant-based 'meat'?
It's not a high-protein play, but young unripe jackfruit - which has a 'meaty' texture and appearance when cooked - is steadily gaining traction as a soy-free clean label meat alternative, says The Jackfruit Company, which has a 10oz chilled product in 4,000 stores from Albertsons to Whole Foods and a growing presence in foodservice with larger shelf-stable packs of pre-cooked ready-to-use jackfruit.
