In February 2015, the LEAP study revealed that early exposure to peanuts among high risk infants (babies with severe eczema, an allergy to egg, or both) can significantly reduce the likelihood of peanut allergy. When the children in the study reached five years of age, the rate of peanut allergy was 80% lower in the group that had eaten peanut products as infants compared to the group that had avoided them.
