Some of the strongest growth in the c-store channel in recent years has come from energy drinks, which posted a staggering 56.4% growth in unit sales in the 2008-2012 period. There was also strong growth in sports drinks, with unit sales up 14.9%.
While dollar sales of salty snacks were up 22.2% in the 2008-2012 period, however, unit sales were up just 3.1%.
A similar pattern is evident in chocolate candy, with dollar sales up 27.8% but unit sales up just 1.5%.
