Patagonia Provisions unveils high protein, low fat, Buffalo jerky
We kick off our snacks gallery with 100% grass-fed Buffalo jerky made from American bison.
Each 70g serving contains 70 calories, 1g fat and 13g protein, says brand owner Patagonia Provisions, which says bison meat is tender, and "considerably lower in fat, calories and cholesterol than beef, chicken, turkey, and pork", with "higher levels of beneficial nutrients such as protein, iron, Omega-3, vitamins B-12 and A".
According to Patagonia, the bison are slaughtered humanely in the prairie where they roam and graze – avoiding the need for crowded, stressful slaughterhouses: “Through selective harvesting, a healthy population of free-roaming buffalo is maintained and the prairie land can be restored. By creating a market for this tasty meat, it ensures the continued existence (or even expansion) of these ancient buffalo herds.”
Buffalo Jerky retails for $10 per pack and can be purchased in Patagonia retail stores and online at patagoniaprovisions.com and at patagonia.com.
