Various snack brands used plaintains as a base for their chips because when unripened the plaintain has a less sweet, more bland flavor similar to a potato making it an ideal carrier of many flavors.
Barnana made its entry into plaintain chips in four varieties: avocado lime, Himalayan pink sea salt, sea salt & vinegar, and Brazilian barbecue. Also at the show was Bubba’s Fine Foods which in a similar concept used unripened bananas for its blazin’ buffalo, grand garlic parma, and macho nacho flavors.
South American food company Inka Crops also featured four varieties of plaintain chips in flavors of sea salt, sweet, chile picante, and Carolina style BBQ.
