The Summer Fancy Food Show
Urban Accents uses pumpkin as base for global flavors
After 20 years in the dry spice space, Urban Accents is expanding into sauces with the launch of pizza sauces, roasting glazes and notably a trio of pumpkin-based simmer sauces that will take consumers on a global adventure. The pumpkin simmer sauces include a Moroccan Apricot Pumpkin Tagine, Mexican Chili Pumpkin Mole and Indian Coconut Pumpkin Curry. “We decided to use pumpkin as kind of a universal because pumpkin and squash is a staple in Asian cuisines, South American and Mexican. So it works across all of these profiles,” said Jim Dygas, owner and president of Urban Accents.
He added the simmer sauces are accessible for the American palate and designed for quick meal solutions that can be on the table in 20 to 25 minutes with the addition of chicken thighs or chickpeas and rice. The sauces also can serve as the base for more elaborate, experimental cooking if consumers want to slice and chop fanciful garnishes or mix-ins, Dygas added.
