ROBIN WHITE, co-founder, Single Cup Coffee: When one company has a virtual monopoly, it creates a vacuum for variety
The brainchild of two longtime coffee industry veterans who took part in the launch of Keurig K-cups in the late 1990s, Single Cup Coffee is an open-platform single-cup brewer based in Ottowa, Canada, on a (rather bold) mission to “take on the giant” Keurig.
And so far, it’s doing a exceptionally good job, raking in over $10m in sales in less than 12 months since incorporation, says co-founder Robin White (pictured right): “Consumers want variety. They had access to (GMCR) Vermont Country Blend for the last 20 years.
“They want fresh brands and something new and exciting. Single-cup coffee is like a candy store for grownups. That’s why we’ve licensed brands that are very exciting and relevant to people today that they’re already engaging with.”
