“Real fruit brings real problems,” as well as opportunities, Peeled Snacks sales rep says
Working with real fruits and veggies may offer substantial opportunities, but it also comes with real risks, cautions Ian Kelleher, head of sales at Peeled Snacks. He explains that Peeled took a hit on its margins for its well-known Much-ado-about-Mango dried fruit products last season after a short harvest limited supply. It also had to temporarily discontinue its dried apricot products last year because hail storms caused nine out of ten apricot trees in Turkey to lose their fruit, Kelleher said. The good news is the apricot SKUs will come back in December or January, he said.
The snack maker also is cushioning the impact of real produce by diversifying its portfolio with the launch in April of Peas Please – an organic pea snack made with pea and brown rice flour rather than fresh pea pods. The launch includes three flavors: sea salt, garden herb and southwest spice.
