Dried fruit increases better-for-you perception
Wolfgang’s new Greek Style Yogurt Treats gives consumers the impression the confection is healthier thanks in part to the real blueberries and pieces of blood orange, mango and peaches in the individually wrapped candy discs, said Benjamin McGlaughlin, chief executive officer of Wolfgang. The line, which launched in February, also includes a key lime treat, but unlike the other three flavors it has a creamy fruit center instead of fruit pieces, he explained. He also noted the Greek yogurt candy coating taps into consumers demand for the high-protein dairy food. However, the candy only has 2 grams of protein, McGlaughlin acknowledged. However, he said, Wolfgang might add more protein and probiotics to the formula in the future to better align with consumer perception of Greek yogurt.
