CHRIS CAMPBELL, co-founder, Chameleon Cold Brew: ‘We’re remarkably smooth.’
We leave you with Texas-based Chameleon Cold-Brew, which promises to make you “the best coffee you have ever tasted – period”.
So what’s its secret? Something to do with the 16 hours its Arabica beans spend brewing in purified Texas Hill Country spring water to create a “remarkably smooth, richly flavored coffee that has dramatically reduced acidity and a jitter free punch of natural caffeine”, suggests co-founder Chris Campbell, who launched the company in 2010 with fellow coffee aficionado Steve Williams.
Chameleon started by making cold-brew coffee concentrates, but branched out into ready-to-drink products in 2014.
Because cold-brewed coffee is less acidic than hot-brewed coffee, Chameleon does not need to counter bitter notes with the 7-9 grams of sugar that you can often find in other ready-to-drink coffees, adds Campbell.
Sales of Chameleon products, which can be enjoyed hot or cold, are “far outpacing” category growth of 10.7% for RTD coffee products in 2014, says the firm, which has recently secured listings at 520 SuperTargets and select Target outlets in the Midwest and Western regions of the U.S.; Meijer, Dierberg’s and Sheetz; plus the online grocery delivery service Fresh Direct in the Northeast. It is also available in all UNFI warehouses, Bayside, LA Distributors and R&K.
